Despite medical consensus that family planning is essential care, state governments continue to enact bans on abortion in light of the pandemic. Recent anti-abortion efforts in Texas successfully stopped all abortion procedures in the state for the first time since Roe v. Wade. To support the legal challenge to this restriction, the Society has joined an amicus brief outlining that abortion is essential healthcare that cannot be delayed or restricted without harm to women’s health. We are proud to sign to this brief alongside 20 leading medical organizations. We remain committed to driving family planning evidence into policy and practice.
