Research and grants

In 2018, we revamped our approach to grantmaking aiming to increase the rigor, relevance, and ultimate impact of research we support. Throughout last year, we also continued to reflect on how we could best serve the family planning research community. Alongside our continuing evaluation of grants previously funded, we reviewed the literature, talked with members, surveyed grant applicants, and reached out to community partners, among other steps.

Through our work, we identified the need to more intentionally support scholars of color as well as to continue to cultivate new, emerging scholars. To that end, we have released two requests for proposals thus far in 2019 – 2019 Changemakers in Family Planning and 2019 Emerging Scholars in Family Planning.

We can only advance our ambitious vision of just and equitable abortion and contraception informed by science by building and supporting an inclusive, multidisciplinary, skilled, and well-connected community of scholars. These funding opportunities are that support in action and we look forward to sharing our other funding opportunities for 2019 as they are ready for launch.
