Dear colleagues,

After an exhaustive national search, I am thrilled to announce that Dr. Amanda Dennis has been selected as the new executive director of the Society of Family Planning (SFP) and the SFP Research Fund.

Dr. Dennis brings skill and commitment to our vision of just, equitable abortion and contraception that is informed by science. Over the past two years, she has served first as our director of research and evaluation, and more recently as interim executive director. Previous to her position at SFP, Dr. Dennis served as the Evaluation Officer at the Colorado Health Foundation, the third largest health foundation in the US, and as an Associate at Ibis Reproductive Health.

A long-time member of SFP, Dr. Dennis received grants from the SFP Research Fund prior to joining the organization as a staff member. She has also received awards for both oral and poster presentations at our annual conference, the North American Forum on Family Planning. Her research has been published in the official SFP journal, Contraception, as well as in the American Journal of Public Health, Health Services Research Journal, Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Women’s Health Issues. She holds a Doctorate in Public Health from Boston University, a Master of Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College.

Alongside her enthusiasm for science and family planning, Dr. Dennis is also inspired by working in partnership with allied organizations and fields. She serves on the board of the Civil Liberties and Public Policy program where she works closely with reproductive justice advocates, and previously was on the board of the Abortion Care Network.

Dr. Dennis will oversee the continued development of our membership services, grantmaking, evaluation, clinical practice guidelines, annual conference, and other programs. She will also be charged with implementing the SFP and SFP Research Fund strategic plans, which she worked on closely with the board of directors.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Dennis to this new role. We are delighted that she will be continuing to share with us her dedication to conducting and communicating meaningful research, working in collaboration with partners, and improving operations. If you have not previously had the chance to connect with Amanda, please take a moment to reach out and introduce yourself.
