Anna Glasier, MD

Anna Glasier, MDAnna Glasier, MD, trained in obstetrics and gynaecology in Edinburgh, working with Allan Templeton when he was a senor registrar. After gaining her medical degree with a thesis on hormonal mechanisms underlying lactational infertility, she undertook subspecialty training in Reproductive Medicine in Edinburgh.

In 1989, Dr. Glasier became a clinical scientist in the MRC Unit of Reproductive Biology and was appointed Director of Family Planning & Well Woman Services for Lothian. She held that position from 1990 until 2010. She is now an honorary professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (Department of Public Health and Policy) and the University of Edinburgh (Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology).

Dr. Glasier was awarded an OBE for services to Women's Health in 2005 and an honorary Degree (Doctor of Laws) from the University of Dundee in 2006.

Dr. Glasier’s research career has been in reproductive health, particularly in contraception. She is a world expert on emergency contraception, and her work was instrumental in its deregulation. She works with a number of international organisations, including the Population Council in New York and the World Health Organisation, where she chaired the Human Reproduction Programme’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Group from 2004–2008.
