Dear SFP members, colleagues, and friends,

It is my great privilege to serve as the SFP board president, along with a highly committed board executive committee, board of directors, and staff. I’d like to highlight new directions and developments undertaken by the board:

Mission and vision. In the wake of the 10th anniversary of SFP, the board of directors held a facilitated retreat in February 2016 to review and update our mission and vision. I’m delighted to report that we have expanded the mission of the Society, based on board and membership input over the past years. We are in the process of finalizing both statements.

Our working vision statement:

A world where all have optimal reproductive health and rights

Our working mission statements for our C4 and C3 entities, respectively:

The Society of Family Planning Research Fund supports research on contraception and abortion that exerts a sustained, powerful influence on clinical practice, public policy, health services, programs and culture.

The Society of Family Planning advances sexual and reproductive health through research, education, advocacy and professional development.

Strategic planning. The board of directors will be working on a strategic plan over the next year. We are excited to report on this plan to our membership as we develop it.

SFP annual business meeting. I will be giving an address to discuss progress and developments in the organization, followed by brief presentations by members of impact in our mission areas of research, education, advocacy and professional development.

ACOG SFP session. For the second year, ACOG has invited SFP, as one of the ob-gyn subspecialty societies, to give a three-hour presentation at the ACOG annual meeting. Dr. Nikki Zite, of our board executive committee, has organized this session with members of the Society. It is scheduled for May 16th from 2:00–5:00 p.m. in Washington DC. If you are attending ACOG, we would love to see you at the session.

Thanks to all of you who have submitted abstracts for the 2016 Forum. Our terrific staff and reviewers are working through our excellent process for reviewing, and will make decisions soon. Accepted abstracts will be presented in Denver, where our collaboration with PPFA and ARHP promises an exciting and informative meeting. Forum 2017 will be held in Atlanta, Georgia!
