Dear SFP fellows and colleagues,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am delighted to announce the 2014 recipients of our three annual awards.

Dr. Horacio Croxatto is the recipient of the 2014 SFP Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Croxatto is one of the world’s leading experts in the use of progestins in contraception. Since 2012, he has served as Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine and Innovating Science and as Full Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the Universidad Andres Bello in Chile. From 1985-2008, he was President of the Chilean Institute for Reproductive Medicine. He has published over 200 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, participated in the presentation of 27 patents, and presented numerous abstracts at national and international conferences. The 2014 Allan Rosenfield Award for Lifetime Contributions to International Family Planning will be presented to John J. Sciarra, MD, PhD. Dr. Sciarra, one of the founding members of SFP, is Professor and Chairman Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Medical School, having taught at and chaired the department from 1974-2003. He began the Northwestern Family Planning Fellowship in 2002 and served as the first Fellowship Director. Dr. Sciarra was President of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), an association representing over 100 member countries, from 1991-1994 and Editor of the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics from 1985-2007. Dr. Marji Gold is the recipient of the 2014 Robert A. Hatcher Family Planning Mentor Award. Dr. Gold practices family medicine and supervises medical students and residents at a community health center in the Bronx, where she has been working for 25 years. She is also a trainer in the CTI program at Planned Parenthood/NYC, where she has worked since the program started in 1995. Dr. Gold wrote the first curriculum for training non-obgyn clinicians in early abortion practice. She is the Director of the Center for Reproductive Health Education in Family Medicine, and works with family medicine residency programs around the country to help them develop early abortion training and service that is fully integrated into the residency curriculum.
